SADDINGTON, MR. D.

AUSTRALIA

FRANKSTON, VICTORIA.

Des. Saddington has become a name well known here in New South Wales over recent years. Those who have attended shows at Frankston of the Pelargonium & Geranium Society of Southern Victoria could not help but notice the number of prize cards and ribbons bearing Des's name.

The following profile was written for us by Mrs. Tempy Saddington.

"Mr. Des. Saddington first became interested in growing pelargoniums in 1969, after being given some cuttings. He joined the Frankston Branch of the Pelargonium & Geranium Society of Victoria, (later, the Pelargonium & Geranium Society of Southern Victoria) where he first exhibited, as a novice in 1973. Since then he has won the Murray Valley Trophy seven times and the W.H. Wood Perpetual Cup at least six times. In fifteen years of exhibiting pelargoniums, Des has won 26 Blue ribbons and 8 Gold Grand Champion ribbons as well as the following medals :-

Six times winner of the Baron von Mueller Bronze Medallion at Melbourne Shows.

Twice winner of the S.S. McKay Silver Medallion at Frankston Shows.

In 1976 the Geelong Society presented him with the S.S. McKay Silver Medallion in recognition of his contribution to Horticulture in Victoria.

A talk given by Des at the Australian Pelargonium & Geranium Society, Victoria, was taped and used in the writing of an article which appeared in "Your Garden" magazine."

The following list of regal pelargoniums was forwarded to our Research Committee by Mr. Saddington and we appreciate his participation in our project.
